A Message from
Laura:
Greetings from our alma mater, Peace College. Peace
captured my heart as a student and again in 1998, as
I accepted the responsibilities of the presidency, twenty-one
years later. I serve Peace to exercise a passion for
the place, to shape its promise, its people and the
young women whose values and lives are indelibly influenced
here.
Throughout history, Peace has benefited enormously from
the courageous leadership of alumnae volunteers who
have served as members of the Alumnae Association Board
and on the Board of Visitors and the Board of Trustees
along with other business leaders. These stalwart benefactors
— with vision and decisiveness — created
the campus and the academic community we celebrate today.
As we commemorate the momentous 150-year milestone of
the founding of Peace Institute in 1857, opportunities
that reach even beyond the vision of our great Presbyterian
founders abound within us and all around us. From a
posture of pride in our heritage, Peace must seize the
institutional imperatives and possibilities of the future.
Peace is truly on the cusp of a great new era. I urge
you to step forward to help fulfill the dreams and ambitions
envisioned for Peace as a baccalaureate college —
to champion our cause with new and increased levels
of giving, and with a resolve to position Peace as a
small college of distinction—giving women big
advantages. “Standing alone, what
has been wilts, and what can be is without context.
United, these forces tap the boundless energy of the
human spirit, and the release of promise.” These
words are from my installation address—and symbolize
how you can rally your Peace sisters found within these
pages and help us realize the promise of Peace for future
generations of alumnae, like us. President
